The firm is involved in criminal matters as part of the fight against money laundering, in controlling criminal risk and in implementing and monitoring criminal proceedings, such as the drafting of suspicious transaction reports.

Since the amended law of November 12 2004 on the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism, lawyers have been required to apply specific rules of vigilance and customer identification. Vigilance is the practical implementation of a more general duty of prudence, which is enshrined in the fundamental principles of the profession. This vigilance, which must prevent the lawyer from becoming an accomplice to an offence, remains present throughout the relationship with the client.

In all circumstances, prudence dictates that the lawyer should not advise his client on a solution if he is not in a position to assess the situation described, to determine for whom the advice or action is intended, and to identify precisely the client and the economic beneficiary. When there is reason to suspect that a legal transaction has the purpose or result of committing an offence, the lawyer must withdraw from the case and cooperate with the authorities.
