Karine VILRET

Karine has over 25 years' experience in advisory and litigation work, representing institutional clients, companies and HNWIs, particularly in insurance/reinsurance and financial issues at national and international level.

Training and experience
Karine graduated from the École Nationale de Procédure de Paris in 1994 and passed her bailiff's exam in Paris the same year. In 1996, she obtained a post-graduate diploma in business law from the Université Panthéon-Assas Paris II, and graduated the same year from the EFB des Barreaux de la Cour d'Appel de Paris. After working for a leading French law firm, she moved to Luxembourg, was admitted to the Luxembourg Bar in 2000 and founded Vilret-avocats.
After an enriching experience in several major law firms in the Luxembourg financial centre, where she developed the insurance and reinsurance departments, she decided to return to her fundamentals and set up her own firm with Me Nicolas Melmer.
Throughout her career, Karine has successfully managed major financial disputes, including the Madoff and Leyne-Strauss-Kahn cases.

A member of the Luxembourg Bar since 2014, Nicolas began his career in corporate law, before quickly developing a passion for insurance and reinsurance law.

Training and experience
Nicolas is a lawyer with a solid academic background. He obtained an Academic Bachelor's degree in Law from the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg. He also holds a Master I in Corporate and Business Law and a Master II in International Trade Law from the Centre de Droit de l'Entreprise de la Faculté de Droit et de Sciences Politiques de Montpellier.
Nicolas has worked for a number of leading law firms in the Luxembourg financial center. He began his career as a corporate finance lawyer. Subsequently, working alongside Karine, he developed a particular interest in insurance and reinsurance, establishing a lasting collaboration with her.

Sharing the same values, he became a Senior Associate in the field of insurance and reinsurance litigation and consulting, as well as in criminal law.

With ten years' experience in the field, his great professional qualities soon enabled him to set up his own practice with Karine.
